The basics

What is Express Cable / universal bench-cable?
Express is a special universal bench-cable for chiptuning and ECU repair. It is the
- safest,
- quickest and
- cheapest
bench-mode connection cable. It makes much safer and speeds up your workflows extremely when read/write/clone automotive ECUs in bench mode and in boot mode. – either without pulling the ECU out of the car
With Express bench-cable it takes around 10 second to connect almost any ECU to your tuning tool. Instead of:
- checking connection manuals,
- search among several pin-to-pin / bench-cables, wires, adapters,
- playing with the colored single wires for several minutes and risking your ECU
- repeat this process 2-5 times in a tuning session
With Express box and its cables you just:
- connect your ECU to Express’s original ECU connector in seconds,
- select the ECU in its menu,
- press ID, ready.
The Express system is invented and made in Hungary (EU) by Rigotech Chiptuning who is in automotive development since 1999.
How can 4 cables cover 252 kinds of ECUs and their 320 wiring variants?
How Express bench cable works?
The basement of the invention is that, several make / type of ECUs are equipped with the same pair of connectors.
One frequently used is the 94-60 pin connector pair (from Tyco) that used by several car brands / more than 90 kinds of ECUs including Bosch, Siemens, Continental, Kefico, Delhpi, Magneti Marelli, Denso. You can find many EDC16, EDC17, MD1, MG1, MED17, MJD, Simos, PCR and others with the same pair of connectors.
Although the connector is the same, there are 121 kinds of wiring variants for the 90 ECUs, depending on which car brand / ECU it belongs to.
For connecting an ECU to the tuning tool (with R/W/Clone purpose) it is needed to connect the
- power supply (ground, +12V pins),
- communication (CAN, K-line pins) and
- some other signal pins (GPTs, boot, etc.).
The problem is that these pins (their positions in the connector) are changing by ECU make / ECU type /ECU version /car brand. – check the animation
So in the past if you wanted to use individual bench-cables with original ECU connectors, you had to buy some hundreds of them with different wirings for different positions of pins (for different ECUs)
Now, it is enough to buy only ONE cable and the Express box can setup the correct wiring for the pinout of the selected / connected ECU. (To extend your coverage you need some more cables, but not hundreds of them.)

Coverage
Unfortunately one cable is not enough (for the full possible coverage), because of there are some other frequently used connector-pairs, check them at the Cx cables section here.
An interesting fact: our 4 piece of cables with the largest coverage (C1 + C2 + C3 + C4) together cover 252 ECUs and their 320 wiring variants.
According the bench-mode carlist of Kess3 (in 2023) 85% of cars (that supports bench mode programming) are covered by Express box and its ‘multiplexed’ bench-cables. In numbers: 315+ kinds of ECUs and their 413 wiring variants are covered by our C1 – C11 cables, and further ECUs will be covered by the C12-C16 cables.
At the remaining 15% ECUs the multiplexing is not possible, because of they have individual connectors, so there is nothing to be multiplexed, or it is not worth making the cable for the sake of rarely used 1-2 ECUs with same connector.
Compatibility & carlist
Our ‘Express’ box is compatible with programming tools like Kess3, Autotuner, CMD, bFlash, Flex, Galetto, and others.
You can connect 382 wiring variations of 320 kinds of ECUs in seconds, on desk or even without taking it out of the car!
