new-bench-cable

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….

… tuners struggled with the pin-by-pin method, and one bench cable could handle only one ECU …

… Back then, they happily shelled out €80 for a single cable – and sometimes even €250 wasn’t enough for the ‘special ones’…

A lot has changed since then…

Those who moved forward now use the Express kit. It’s not free either – but if you get 3 cables, they won’t just cover 3 ECUs… they’ll cover 230!

Which one are you?

Innovative pro tuner

As a  pro, you’ve spent a few thousands on bench cables and adapters – just like we did. With that, we covered 10-20 ECUs, the most common cases. And we loved them!

The problem is, even with all that, there are still around 350 types of ECUs that had to be removed and wired pin by pin manually. It’s impossible to have a dedicated cable for each one when some ECUs use 2, 3, or even more different wirings.

You don’t need explanations – if it helps you, you get it instantly.

Beginner or intermediate?

You already see that this is a good business, but you also feel its challenges and risks. You know a few tricks, but you still ask for help often. One tool isn’t enough, one cable isn’t enough.
The best investment is to learn and expanding your equipment so you never have to send customers to the competitors. You still have a sharp vision and the time to make simple cables yourself. But if pin-by-pin wiring and unnecessary disassembly aren’t your favorites we have the perfect solution for you as well.

Q

Constant Grumble

„Nothing can go wrong from a bad wiring …” – „I’m not going to pay 600 EUR just to save 600!” – “The price will never come back.” – “I can put the wires on in 1 minute…” (yeah, and 10 minutes to disassemble, repeat the wiring and put the ECU back several times. OK, you know how it goes…) – „This is nonsense, it’s impossible to do, a scam.” – if you say…

If you don’t have 600 EUR to make your own life easier and your clients’ comfort a priority, it’s probably best to close this window now.”

Which one would you rather be?

Can I really get a bench cable for 8 EUR per ECU? – Let’s find out!

In the chiptuning business,

We all want to work efficiently, quickly, and comfortably, without mistakes. It is crucial to maintain ECU integrity throughout the process, and it’s even more convenient if it doesn’t need to be removed from the car during ‘bench-mode’ programming.

Are you making real progress on your work, or just  counting pins, and wondering if you connected the wires correctly?

One-by-one wiring ate up a huge amount of time, and while we rarely made mistakes, there were still cases where a wrong connection led to ECU or tuning tool repairs. Sometimes, the positive wire ended up on the wrong pin, but even when everything seemed fine – like in the case of a Hyundai – the ECU still literally went up in smoke. Why? Because the wiring diagram was wrong, and standard wires/cables provide no protection in such cases.

More than once, the ECU became completely irreparable due to a faulty diagram or a simple wiring mistake. Fixing the issue costs around 1500 euros – plus additional expenses. The car (vehicle/machine) can be stuck for days or even weeks, and the customer is understandably frustrated.

Are you continuing the struggle instead?

It’s nearly impossible to organize and efficiently use 400-500 pc dedicated cables, and it would be completely unreasonable to spend app. 450 × 80 EUR (and that’s with the lowest price) = 36K EUR on this.

F.A.Q.

One cable replaces 90 bench-cables?

Yes.

Four cables with original connectors do the job of 250 bench cables?

Correct.

Can I really connect 73% of ECUs instantly with just four cables?

Absolutely.

With a few additional cables, can I cover up to 87% of ECUs, which means around 320 different types?

Sure.

How does it work?

This is a completely new approach to ECU bench (and boot) connections for chiptuning, repair, and cloning. Our exclusive and unique solution utilizes a special multiplexer box and cables with original ECU connectors (94+60 pins, 96+58 pins, 105+91 pins, 56-56 pins and more), eliminating the need for manually connecting individual colored wires pin by pin  in bench/boot mode. – or buy countless individual bench-cables for the same coverage

The multiplexing technology allows the box to intelligently redirect power and signals to the appropriate ECU pins based on the selected configuration.

If an ECU has multiple wiring configurations, does it support them as well?

Yes. There are approximately 400 different wiring variations for the 320 ECUs, and it is expandable.

Is boot mode really supported?

Yes, boot mode is supported. In boot mode, Express provides the power and communication lines, and also forwards the boot, reset, and CNF signals through its 3.5mm jack output. You’ll need to manually connect them after opening the ECU.

Is OBD mode (resets, coding, flashing) supported on the bench?

Yes, with our OBD to Express adapter, you can connect any scanner or tuning tool to Express, enabling support for ECUs on the desk. This is a great feature for ECU reset, coding, adaptation, and even flashing via an OBD protocol, as long as your tool and the selected ECU support it.

Is this the final list, or can new ECUs be added?

We can add new ECUs via software updates at any time, as long as they have connectors compatible with our cables and meet other necessary conditions. We can also develop additional cables and configure the Express Box accordingly. Updates provide fixes and new features seamlessly.

Can I try it?

Of course! Buy one, test it for a month, and if for any reason you’re not satisfied, simply return it, and we’ll refund your purchase price.

Is it really impossible to damage the ECU with it?

We haven’t managed to do it – not even when we tried hard during testing. Of course, there’s a minimal chance if you select the wrong ECU or if the unit is already faulty.

Express checks everything before powering up:
✔ Is the correct cable connected for the selected ECU?
✔ Is the power supply safe?
✔ Does the ECU’s power consumption and profile match expectations?

It only connects if all tests pass, minimizing the risk of errors – unlike pin-by-pin wiring or traditional bench cables, which offer no protection at all.

Is there a subscription fee?

No. It’s a one-time investment, just like a traditional cable.

Can I use Express Cable with my existing tuning tools?

Yes! Express Cable is compatible with all tuning tools. We offer affordable adapters for the 15 most popular tools. Thanks to its unified connection platform, you can connect and switch between tools in seconds.

Are the tuning tool adapters included in the price?

No. We have developed 10 types of adapters, covering the 15 most popular tuning tools. The cheapest option is our universal adapter, priced at around 20 EUR, while the most advanced microcontroller-based adapter for Flex costs around 200 EUR.

You can connect any tuning tool using the universal adapter, but using specific adapters for different tools is the most convenient and professional solution.

Don’t forget to add the necessary adapters to your order!

How expensive is it? Can I afford it?

You decide. With minimal investment, you’ll pay around 13 EUR per “cable” (activation) – see details below. For professionals, our full package brings the cost below 8 EUR per activation. Yes, instead of paying 80-350 EUR per traditional bench cable, with Express, you only pay 8-13 EUR per activation so, you get the same coverage, plus this cable also provides active protection.

Bench-Mode Programming: A Faster and Safer Way to Tune ECUs

When it comes to ECU tuning, efficiency and safety are paramount. Traditional tuning methods often require opening the ECU casing, risking damage and complicating the process. However, bench-mode programming, also known as service-mode or simply bench, revolutionizes the way tuners work by offering a safer, faster, and non-intrusive alternative.

What is Bench-Mode Programming?

Bench-mode programming allows tuners to access and modify an ECU’s data without opening its enclosure. Instead, the ECU remains intact while it is connected to a tuning tool via specialized cables and (in case of Express bench cable) a multiplexer box. This method provides direct communication with the ECU through its factory connectors, ensuring a seamless and efficient tuning process.

The Process and Required Equipment

To perform bench-mode programming, a few key tools are required:

  • Tuning Tool: A device that reads and writes ECU data, such as Autotuner, KESS3, CMD, Flex, Scanmatic, PCM Flash …
  • Bench Cables: These connect the ECU to the tuning tool without requiring soldering or internal access.
  • Multiplexer Box (Optional): A tool like the Express Cable system that simplifies connections, eliminating the need for manual pin-by-pin wiring and buying / having hundreds of individual bench cables.

The process is straightforward:

  1. Identify the ECU and verify its compatibility with bench-mode programming.
  2. Connect the ECU to the tuning tool using the appropriate bench cable.
  3. Read the ECU Data, creating a backup of the original software.
  4. Modify the Parameters using tuning software to optimize performance.
  5. Write the New Data back to the ECU securely.
  6. Reinstall the ECU (if it was removed) and verify proper function.

Key Advantages of Bench-Mode Programming

  1. Speed: The process is significantly faster than traditional BDM (Background Debug Mode) or boot-mode tuning since there’s no need to open the ECU or perform delicate soldering work.
  2. Safety: Since the ECU remains sealed, there’s no risk of physical damage from handling internal components.
  3. Convenience: Plug-and-play bench cables simplify connections, reducing setup time and eliminating human errors in wiring.
  4. Wide Compatibility: Many modern ECUs (TCU and ACM as well) support bench-mode tuning, making it a versatile solution for a wide range of vehicles. – not only cars, but trucks, agri, heavy machines, but motorbikes, ATW-s also

Conclusion

Bench-mode programming is a game-changer for ECU tuners. By eliminating the need for intrusive modifications and reducing setup time, it allows professionals to work more efficiently and safely. With the right equipment, such as high-quality bench cables and a reliable tuning tool, tuners can maximize their productivity while ensuring the best results for their customers.

For those looking to streamline their tuning process, investing in a well-designed bench-mode setup is a decision that pays off in speed, safety, and efficiency.
